Welcome and Hello…
If you need gluten and low-sugar recipe ideas – you’re in the right place.
At Taste Affair we work hard to bring you the most scrumptious, beautiful and simple recipes because we know that a diet free of gluten and low in refined sugar is essential to the health and wellbeing of ourselves, our families, and so many of YOU. We also know that eating this way can sometimes feel like a compromise.
We don’t like compromise.
We ask – if it’s possible to eat incredibly delicious, simple food that doesn’t mess with your digestion or deplete your energy – then why wouldn’t you?
At Taste Affair we only showcase recipes that work. That means they ‘re energizingly healthy and won’t leave you feeling deprived. Put simply – these recipes are a joy to devour.
We hope you join us in our quest in making gluten-free dining a tasty, dare we say it – indulgent affair.
Who are we?
Christine and I are both mothers with three young children living in Switzerland. We are great friends who love to spend time together cooking and unwinding.
We’re both incredibly motivated to create and share health-filled recipes because we’ve seen first-hand the difference in our children’s health and behavior when they do – and do not eat according to particular dietary principles.
And so, our daily challenge is to create food that meets these criteria:
- full of incredible taste
- pleasureful to devour
- low in refined-sugar.
We find that family life is much happier when we ditch the sugar and gluten, and we hope you do too.
Christine is a classically-trained & talented chef with a brain packed-full of clever gluten-free ideas. Gluten and grain intolerances run in Christine’s family so she’s spent many hours in the kitchen concocting recipes that won’t harm them.
Christine has a love of fine dining and hates to settle for anything less than the best. Whenever she has a spare moment, Christine can be found experimenting in the kitchen and contributing to Taste Affair’s site content.
I (Rachael) am Taste Affair’s main site writer and food photographer. I navigate my own gluten and food intolerances and have been a vegetarian for most of my life. Some people think my diet is limiting but I like to think it makes me inventive.
I am often in the kitchen experimenting with high protein, low sugar recipes. Many of them fail badly, but the ones that work quickly become family favorites. I feel one of the greatest gifts I can give my family is feeding – and teaching them to create – energizing healthy food.
As a trained chef, Christine is stocked with lots of little tips, tricks and shortcuts that can take recipes from bland to WOW. I on the other hand am a home cook. If a recipe is too fancy or tricky, I’m quick to let Christine know. The different skills and passions we bring to the kitchen balance each other perfectly.
Neither of us are nutritional experts. We only know what works and what doesn’t for our lives and our bodies. If you want to learn more about which foods affect your individual digestion, we recommend you seek the advice of natural or biomedical nutritional experts.
How Taste Affair Began
I met Christine on a Swiss school playground. Her Canadian accent rang out clear as a bell through the German chatter and I was incredibly happy to find an English-speaking mother with children the same age as mine.
I soon learned she was a talented chef and incredibly knowledgable in the ways of gluten-free cooking thanks to a raft of dietary intolerances that run in her family.
With my experience as a writer, blogger, and new passion for photography, I began to see that – if we combined our efforts – we could add a lot of value as food bloggers.
In April 2016 we began recording recipes on a weekly basis and building the website, and by September we were ready to launch.
Each post is a great deal of fun, creativity and hard-work, and we hope to keep bringing you gluten-free gems from our kitchens for a long time to come.
